FREE Mental Health First Aid Course
Do you want to learn how to provide Mental Health First Aid to friends, family or people you work with?

WHAT IS MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID?
Mental Health First Aid is the help provided to a person who is developing a mental health problem, experiencing worsening of a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis.
The first aid is given until the appropriate professional help can be accessed or the crisis resolves.
The MHFA course will teach adults how to provide initial support to other adults who are developing any of the following:
Mental Health problems such as depression; anxiety problems; psychosis; substance use problems.
Mental health crises such as: suicidal thoughts and behaviours; non-suicidal self injury; panic attacks; traumatic events; severe psychotic states; severe effects from alcohol or other drug use; aggressive behavior.
Participants will learn:
- Skills in how to recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health problems
- Knowledge of the possible causes or risk factors for these mental health problems
- Awareness of the evidenced based medical, psychological and alternative treatments
- Skills in how to give appropriate initial help and support someone experiencing a mental health problem
- Skills in how to take appropriate action if a crisis situation arises.
WHO CAN ATTEND?
This course is suitable for any member of the general public. Any interested adult can attend. Participants must commit to attending all sessions.

Participants who complete the training are eligible to apply for a Mental Health First Aider Certificate of Accreditation (online assessment to be completed).
This is a 12 hour course held at Bacchus & Melton Regional Hospital.
You must go to all sessions to complete the course.

2 Full Day Sessions
